Research

The participating students will complete a number of research assignments in order to be prepared for the trip. The research consists of research to the country itself (Macro), to industrial sectors (Meso) and to the companies and universities which will be visited (Micro).

Macro / Meso
In the Macro assignment several characteristics of Canada are compared to the Netherlands. The research focuses on topics like culture, history, economy and politics. At the end of the Macro research we hope to have found an answer to the question 'What are important actors and factors in society that could support or inhibit the adoption of emerging technologies?'

In the Meso assignment sectors relevant to electrical engineering are investigated. The companies and universities which will be visited will come from these sectors.

Micro
The final part of the preparation to the Study Trip consists of the Micro research. Its goal is to gain more knowledge about Emerging Technologies. The results will be compared to the Macro and Meso research. Most of the Micro research is carried out during or after the Study Trip. In order to be prepared for the trip and to be able to ask intelligible questions a part is carried out before the trip. The preparation work will also help the companies to fine-tune their presentation to our needs.

Contract research
A trip to a country far away, is quite expensive. In order to finance the trip all students perform assignments for companies in the Netherlands in advance to the trip. This money is then used to cover most costs.
