Dr. Ir. L. Abelmann
Extra-curricular activities, such as the organisation of an international study tour, are a vital part of an academic study. The electrical engineering students of the University of Twente, organised in the Scintilla student organisation, have an excellent reputation in organising these study tours.
To me, joining Ohiariha is a privilege. Not in the least part because it is a lot of fun...

My name is Ciska Heida, and work in the Biomedical Systems and Signals group as an assistant professor.
When I was a student of Electrical Engineering I have not participated in a international study tour. I went, however, to Canada for a practical training at the University of Waterloo. Besides the pleasure of traveling around with a group of enthousiastic students, the Ohiariha study tour gives me the opportunity to go back to Canada and visit several companies, research institutes and cultural sites.

My name is Arjan Meijerink and I work in the Telecommunication Engineering (TE) group of prof. Wim van Etten.

So far I have spent most of my life in Twente. I was born in Almelo in 1976, and after finishing secondary school and high school, I moved toEnschede to study electrical engineering at the UT. I obtained my MSc degree in 2001, and in 2005 I obtained my PhD degree for my thesis "Coherence multiplexing for optical communication systems".

Currently I am working as a postdoctoral researcher in the SMart
Antennas for Radio Transceivers (SMART) project. My task is to develop an integrated optical beamformer unit for a phased array antenna, enabling passengers to watch satellite TV on board of an aeroplane. My main hobby is soccer: I am a member of v.v. Drienerlo, which plays its home matches (including the "third half") on the UT campus.

Having participated in the "Scintilla At The IslandS (SATIS)" study project as a student in 1999, I am delighted to be invited as supervisor in the Ohiariha study project. I believe study projects like
these are the ultimate extension of the regular study program, not only because of the international traveling and the wide variety of companies and institutes that are visited, but also for the social aspects of being on tour with a large group of students for three weeks. I am looking forward to re-experiencing this during the upcoming travel
through Canada!
Ir. J. Engelen
My name is Johan Engelen and I work in the Transducers Science and Technology group as a Ph.D. researcher. I was one of the organisers of the Shouraizou study project in 2004, and I think back to those days very often. Shouraizou has left an everlasting impression on me, and I hope Ohiariha will have the same effect on its participants.
A study project is a perfect blend of getting to know a different culture, seeing Electrical Engineering in a wide variety of places, being on tour with a large group of students, meeting foreign students and researchers, and many more great experiences.
For all this I am greatly honored to be able to join Ohiariha as supervisor and I am sure it will be unforgettable!
